Mike Murr is Mr. Fantasy Baseball 2010
Kenosha, Wis., November 2, 2010 - Well, the 2010 Sports Buff fantasy baseball season is over and the one man left standing at the top of the heap is Mike Murr from Eagan, Minn.
Picking from the fourth draft position, Mike was left to choose between the Rangers and the Giants and took the Rangers, with a few important Giants tossed in. When it became a Ranger/Giant final it was all Mike Murr from there. Riding the fire balling arms of Cliff Lee (55 points) and Tim Lincecum (86 points) and toss in wild cards like Cody Ross (50 points) and Colby Lewis (69 points) and Mike had the recipe for a championship team. How odd is it that the series MVP, Edgar Renteria, was not even drafted in the Vegas draft? That is what makes our game unique and a lot of fun.
Steve Krenek of Lisle, Ill., took second place with Norm and Lee Hedrich rounding out the field. It was a very interesting final in that the favorites bowed out in the league championship series and the guys that were considered the least attractive picks became the most important players left in the contest. As is the case many times for Sports Buff baseball and football, sometimes picking at the beginning of the draft is a tricky proposition because the favorites are not always guaranteed a spot in the finals.
So the Sports Buff baseball season is in the book and the Sports Buff football finals are fast approaching. Who will be the final 8 to make it to Vegas and vie for the $30,000 Grand Prize? And more importantly, who will be the guys that are perceived to be the best picks on the favored teams and will they lead the first part of the draft to fame and fortune? Or will it once again be the end of the draft that benefits from the unpredictability of the playoffs of every major sport. Stay tuned.
